Digital Inclusion: Message for Partners and Subscribers
As you no doubt have heard, EarthLink notified its Wi-Fi customers in Philadelphia that it intends to terminate Wi-Fi service. EarthLink states that it will provide its customers a 30-day transition period through June 12, 2008. All Digital Inclusion customers will be eligible for one (1) year of free internet access via dial-up through June 2009.
Wireless Philadelphia Digital Inclusion customers will continue to have EarthLink Wi-Fi service through June 12, 2008. After June 12, all Digital Inclusion customers will be able to take advantage of EarthLink's dial-up internet service. IMPORTANT NOTE: CUSTOMERS MUST HAVE A HOME TELEPHONE LINE TO USE DIAL-UP. EarthLink will contact customers within the next 2 weeks to answer any questions about their accounts and regarding the transfer to dial-up. Customers may also call them directly at 877-943-4435.
Please know that Wireless Philadelphia is aggressively working to prevent this deadline from being imposed and at the same time solidify a replacement for EarthLink's Wi-Fi service prior to the stated June 12 termination date. We will keep you abreast of our progress in the coming weeks.
