On May 23, 2007 Wireless Philadelphia formally accepted the Proof of Concept area, the fifteen-square-mile test zone built to prove the viability of a Wi-Fi deployment on this scale. EarthLink is currently building out the network citywide, and roughly 80% of the City is now covered.

The Proof of Concept area includes more than a dozen neighborhoods and stretches 15 square miles.
